Site Visit: Cotswold Retreat
A Duo of Timeless Residences.
This week, We had the privilege of being on-site to check up on the progress of one of our favourite projects – two replacement dwellings currently under construction in the picturesque village of Bledington, nestled in the heart of the Cotswolds.
It was a pleasure to see this project taking shape, and it is poised to redefine the charm of this picturesque region. Tasked with the challenge of replacing an existing dwelling, our brief was to design two distinct residences that seamlessly blend into their surroundings while enhancing the existing street scene on this expansive plot.
From the inception of this project, our goal was to create two homes that not only reflect individuality but also complement each other in a harmonious dance of architectural elegance. Each dwelling has been meticulously crafted with unique features and design elements that set them apart, yet maintain a cohesive aesthetic.
The Cotswolds are renowned for their breathtaking natural beauty, and it was imperative that our design embraced and enhanced this setting. Both houses are thoughtfully positioned to maximize views of the surrounding landscape, and their exteriors draw inspiration from the Cotswold stone vernacular, ensuring a seamless integration with the environment.
One of the distinctive aspects of this project was the opportunity to contribute to the existing street scene on this wide plot. Our design takes into account the architectural character of the neighborhood, ensuring that the new residences not only blend in but elevate the overall aesthetic appeal. The scale, proportions, and materials were carefully selected to pay homage to the local architectural heritage while infusing a modern touch.
As construction progresses, we are excited to witness the vision taking shape. The shell of the first house is almost complete, revealing the silhouette of what promises to be a stunning addition to the Cotswold landscape. The choice of materials, including locally sourced stone and timber, adds authenticity and a sense of rootedness to the project.
